Tabula Celebrates 20 Years of Connecting Field Operations
New Zealand-founded technology company marks two decades of growth from GPS guidance and proof of application to a global platform connecting complex field operations.

Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand, Monday 12 October 2026. Tabula is celebrating 20 years since its first commercial units entered the field in October 2006.
What began with GPS guidance and proof of application in New Zealand fertiliser trucks has evolved into a global field operations platform spanning agriculture, horticulture, aviation, fire and emergency response, and vector control.
Today, Tabula connects the people, machinery and information behind complex field operations — bringing planning, guidance, live operational information and trusted records together in one place.
To mark the milestone, Tabula has brought together the customers, people and stories behind its 20-year journey — from those who helped shape the technology in its earliest days to businesses using the platform across complex field operations today.
The anniversary series charts Tabula’s evolution across industries and countries, while looking ahead to how AI, automation and increasingly autonomous machinery could shape the next 20 years of field operations.
CEO Michael Whittaker says the milestone demonstrates the value of continually evolving alongside the industries Tabula serves.
“As operations have become more complex, we’ve kept connecting more of the people, machinery and information around them. That ability to evolve alongside our customers is what has kept Tabula relevant for 20 years, and it’s what will carry us into the next 20.”
From one problem to an entire operation
TracMap’s story began with a practical challenge in New Zealand agriculture: helping farmers and contractors apply products more accurately while providing electronic proof of where work had been completed.
From there, one challenge led to the next.
The technology expanded into Australia and, in 2010, took to the skies through agricultural aviation. Horticulture and viticulture followed, before Tabula — rebranded from TracMap in 2023 — entered wildfire and emergency response in 2024.
What started by connecting a driver to the job in front of them became a platform connecting entire operations.
20 years of continual evolution
As AI, automation and autonomous machinery reshape field operations, Tabula sees an increasingly important role in ensuring new technology remains connected to the people, equipment and information around it.
“When customers choose a technology partner, they’re backing where that company is going as much as what it can do today. That means continually investing, continually evolving and making sure Tabula remains the place where their operation comes together — whatever the next 20 years bring.”
